IMS and Sum Hospital Campus 2 celebrates International Nurses Day

Odia Gossip Bureau (Bhubaneswar, May 12): The Nursing Department of IMS & Sum Hospital Campus-2, Phulankhara, celebrated a special event on Tuesday to celebrate International Nurses Day. The hospital organized this program with the aim of honoring the contribution of nurses in the field of health care and encouraging their work.

Professor Pradeep Kumar Nanda, Vice Chancellor of the Siksha 'O' Anusandhan, a private deemed university in Bhubaneswar, was the chief guest at the program organized on Tuesday and said that nurses have a significant contribution to the society. Professor Nanda said that nurses protect the health care of the society and therefore they are the backbone of the society.

On this occasion, Professor Gangadhar Sahu, former Dean of IMS & Sum Hospital Bhubaneswar, participated as the keynote speaker and praised the work of the nurses and asked them to always serve the patients with a smile.

At the event, Professor Sahu highly praised the work and patient care of Smt. Kamalini Mallick, Nursing Superintendent of IMS & Sum Hospital Campus-2, during the Covid pandemic and conferred the title of Florence Nightingale on her.

Professor (Dr) Prasenjit Mohanty, Vice-Chancellor, SOAR, Professor (Dr) Rajesh Kumar Lenka, Medical Superintendent, IMS & Sam Hospital Campus-2, and Professor (Dr) Tapsi Pati, Additional Medical Superintendent, attended the event as the guests of honour and highlighted the theme of this year's International Nurses Day, "Our Nurses, Our Future, Empowered Nurses Save Lives".

The guests said that nurses are the future of the society. Therefore, for the benefit of the society and to save human lives, nurses need to be empowered. They were of the opinion that they can provide proper patient care only if they are protected from good health and mental stress.

Nursing Superintendent Smt. Kamalini Mallick delivered the welcome address and conducted the programme. Similarly, Deputy Nursing Superintendent Smt. Pranati Rani Behera administered the Florence Nightingale oath to the nurses while Smt. Suchismita Jena read out the annual report.

At the end of the programme, Deputy Nursing Superintendent Smt. Sulata Kumari Parida proposed the vote of thanks.
