East Coast Railway Observes World Environment Day 2026 With Focus on Climate Change

Bhubaneswar, (Odia Gossip Bureau, 05 June 2026): East Coast Railway (ECoR) observed World Environment Day 2026 through a series of awareness, plantation and sustainability initiatives across its Headquarters and Divisions, aligning with the global theme “Climate Change.” The campaign was conducted from 15th May to 5th June 2026 with the objective of promoting environmental conservation, sustainable lifestyles and community participation.

The observance witnessed enthusiastic participation from employees, officers, family members and passengers across ECoR’s Khurda Road, Sambalpur and Rayagada Divisions, reflecting a collective commitment towards environmental sustainability and climate action.

At the Headquarters, General Manager Shri Parmeshwar Funkwal administered the World Environment Day pledge, reaffirming East Coast Railway’s commitment to environmental protection and sustainable development. The observance also featured a range of awareness and outreach activities aimed at promoting environmental responsibility and climate conscious practices.

As part of the campaign, extensive awareness programmes, cleanliness drives, tree plantation activities under the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” initiative, plastic reduction campaigns, and water and energy conservation programmes were organized at railway offices, colonies, stations and other public areas. Nukkad Nataks, quizzes, drawing competitions and public outreach activities were also conducted to encourage environmental awareness and responsible behaviour.

Special emphasis was laid on promoting the principles of Mission LiFE (Lifestyle for Environment), reducing single use plastic, encouraging waste segregation and recycling, conserving natural resources and enhancing green cover through large scale plantation drives.

East Coast Railway remains committed to advancing Indian Railways’ vision of sustainable and environmentally responsible transportation. Through continuous environmental initiatives and active stakeholder participation, ECoR is contributing towards a cleaner, greener and more climate resilient future.
