AIIMS Bhubaneswar Clarifies Patient Care and Condemns Violence Against Healthcare Professionals

Bhubaneswar (Odia Gossip Bureau, 27 June 2026): AIIMS Bhubaneswar expresses deep sorrow over the demise of a 36-year-old male patient who was admitted after alleged consumption of approximately 10 grams of poison on 24 June 2026 at around 4:00 PM at his residence in Ugalpada, Khordha, reportedly under the influence of alcohol.

The patient was brought to the Emergency Department of AIIMS Bhubaneswar at 5:25 PM on 24 June 2026 in a critically ill condition. He was immediately attended to by the emergency medical team, stabilised, and provided with all necessary emergency interventions. Thereafter, he was shifted to the Medicine Ward, where he continued to receive treatment strictly in accordance with established standard treatment protocols.

On the morning of 27 June 2026, the patient's condition deteriorated suddenly. The treating doctors and nursing staff promptly initiated all life-saving resuscitative measures after informing the family members about the patient's critical condition and the associated risks. Despite exhaustive efforts by the treating team and adherence to the highest standards of medical care, the patient could not be revived and was declared deceased.

Following the unfortunate death, a group of the patient's relatives and associates turned violent and physically assaulted the duty doctors and nursing staff, resulting in an unacceptable act of violence against healthcare professionals while they were discharging their duties.

The deceased's body has been sent for post-mortem examination as per the prescribed legal procedure. The police responded promptly to the incident, apprehended the accused persons, and initiated appropriate legal action.

AIIMS Bhubaneswar categorically denies any allegation of negligence in the treatment of the patient. Every possible medical intervention was undertaken in accordance with standard clinical protocols by the treating team.

Dr. Prabhas Ranjan Tripathy, Medical Superintendent, AIIMS Bhubaneswar, strongly condemned this unfortunate and cowardly attack on healthcare professionals and stated:

"Violence against doctors and healthcare workers is completely unacceptable and cannot be justified under any circumstances. Our medical team made every possible effort to save the patient's life while adhering to established clinical protocols. AIIMS Bhubaneswar stands firmly with its healthcare professionals and will extend full cooperation to the investigating authorities to ensure that those responsible for this reprehensible act are brought to justice."

AIIMS Bhubaneswar appeals to the public to maintain faith in the healthcare system and to resolve grievances through lawful and peaceful means, while respecting the dedicated efforts of healthcare professionals who work tirelessly to save lives.
