Injured Calf Rescued and Revived by SOA Veterinary Hospital After Hit-and-Run Incident

Bhubaneswar (Odia Gossip Bureau): A calf that was critically injured in a hit-and-run accident on Raja Sankranti evening (June 15) has made a full recovery thanks to the timely intervention and dedicated treatment provided by the veterinary team at the Institute of Veterinary Sciences and Animal Husbandry (IVSAH), operated by Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan (SOA).

According to reports, the calf was resting on a roadside when it was suddenly run over by a four-wheeler. Instead of stopping to assess the animal’s condition, the driver allegedly fled the scene, leaving the helpless creature severely injured and bleeding.

Unable to communicate its pain, the calf reportedly managed to reach the front of a local resident’s house, where it cried out in distress. The animal had sustained multiple injuries across its body and was unable to consume food or water due to its condition.

Local residents made several attempts to arrange medical assistance but were initially unsuccessful. Eventually, a local resident contacted the Veterinary Clinical Complex of IVSAH. Responding promptly, an ambulance from the hospital reached the spot, rescued the injured calf, and transported it for emergency treatment.

Speaking about the case, Professor Niranjan Sahu, Medical Superintendent of the SOA-IVSAH Hospital, said the calf was suffering from severe trauma and intense pain caused by its injuries. Immediate treatment was initiated upon its arrival at the hospital.

Under the direct supervision of Professor Sahu and the veterinary team, the calf gradually recovered and soon began eating and drinking normally. After receiving comprehensive medical care, the animal made a complete recovery.

Once declared fit, the calf was transported back by ambulance and released near the location from where it had been rescued.

Professor Sahu stated that the hospital regularly treats injured and accident-hit stray animals and has successfully rehabilitated many such cases. He urged people to remain sensitive toward animals in distress and seek timely veterinary assistance whenever required.

The incident once again highlights the growing concern over reckless driving and the frequent accidents involving stray animals on roads. Animal welfare advocates have called for greater responsibility among motorists to prevent such unfortunate occurrences.
